The Greenway Collaborative, Inc. announces its 2009 webinar series.  These lunchtime sessions are from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month.  Each hour long session will look at a specific trail or non-motorized transportation issue in depth and then have some time for questions and answers.

Norman Cox, ASLA, will be the presenter. He is the founder of The Greenway Collaborative, Inc. and has 20 years of experience planning and designing trails and non-motorized transportation facilities.  He has designed the webinar to address many of the issues that The Greenway Collaborative, Inc.'s clients are currently dealing with.

Tentative Schedule and Subjects

January 20th - Right Trails, Right Place

It's not too hard to figure out where to locate a rail trail, but what about the other trails in your community?  What are the most appropriate ways to integrate bicycle and pedestrian travel within a road right-of-way?  What differentiates an “urban greenway” from a street that is comfortable to bike on?  This webinar will explore these and other issues facing communities developing a comprehensive trails plan.

March 17th - Design and Liability Issues of Mid-block Crossings

Whether it is trail crossing a busy street or figuring out how to get pedestrians across busy suburban arterials, locating and designing appropriate mid-block crossings is a critical safety decision.  This session will look at current best practices for signalized and unsignalized pedestrian crossings including some new and emerging signs and signals.

Bike Parking, Going Beyond Hoops

How much bike parking is really needed?  What type of bike parking should be located where?  What are bike cages and bike stations?  Just as with cars, people need a place to park their bikes at home, work and where they shop.  This session will look at how to provide a spectrum of bicycle parking facilities to meet the needs or various users.

Taking Your Trail to the Next Level

Is your trail showing its age or have you just installed a strip of asphalt and not much else yet?   Learn how to make your trail a safe, attractive and educational community resource.  This session will look at safety, wayfinding and interpretive signage, as well as various trail amenities.

Paper and Digital Bike Maps

What information should go on a bike map?  What scale should it be?  How much do they cost to produce?  Should it be on-line or printed?  This session will look a number of ways to get information bicyclists need into their hands.
