OVERVIEW

The Complete Streets Institute is a comprehensive and standardized 5-module training program designed to increase awareness of complete streets principles, support local advocacy efforts, and provide practical, realistic instructions and techniques to help communities create, adopt and implement Complete Streets policies and projects.   Michigan Complete Streets Logo

WEBINARS

Webinar presentations of the Complete Streets Modules are available for free for anyone who would like to participate and will be posted to this website for future reference.  Each webinar is an hour long and presents one of the five modules.

Complete Streets Institute: Module 1 - Overview of Complete Streets

This is the first of a five-part webinar series on Complete Streets brought to you by the Michigan Department of Community Health.  This module will introduce what Complete Streets are, their origins, challenges, benefits, and what they look like in different contexts.  The webinar will also provide an overview of how to balance transportation needs, recent national and state complete street policies and legislation, and how you can move your community towards Complete Streets. Presenters are Brad Strader, LSL Planning and Norm Cox, The Greenway Collaborative.

Complete Streets Institute: Module 2 - Stakeholder Engagement

This is the second of the five-part webinar series on Compete Streets brought to you by the Michigan Department of Community Health.  This module will cover the impact of policy change, how to identify stakeholders, how to build and maintain a coalition, strategies to effect policy change, as well as examine lessons learned from Michigan case studies.  The presenter is Nancy Krupiarz, Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance.

Complete Streets Institute: Module 3 - Influencing Policy

This is the third of a five-part webinar series on Complete Streets brought to you by the Michigan Department of Community Health.  This module will explain what we mean by "policy," provide the National Complete Streets Coalition recommended principles that should be in a policy and how to include them in a local policy, give an overview of the transportation planning process, and walk through sample language for Complete Streets policies.  Presenters are Sherrin Hood, LSL Planning and Andrea Brown, Michigan Association of Planning.

Complete Streets Institute: Module 4 - Planning & Regulations

Complete Streets Institute: Module 5 - Design & Application

Wednesday September 28, 2011 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM

This is the fifth of a five-part webinar series on Complete Streets brought to you by the Michigan Department of Community Health.  This module will provide an understanding of multi-modal users as well as the key principles that should be addressed in designing Complete Streets.  The webinar will also show how Complete Streets elements may be integrated for travel along and across the roadway through numerous special cases. Norman Cox of The Greenway Collaborative is the presenter.
