Over 4,100 students in the Jackson Public School rely on school buses to get to school. Of these students a significant number of them are within a reasonable walking distance of school and could potentially walk to school on a daily basis. This study identifies which of those students could reasonably be required to walk to school based on existing and potential conditions. It also looks at the cost of the infrastructure changes and the potential transportation savings for the school district.
This study is part of a great Project U-Turn effort including the Safe Routes to School and Environmental Improvements program. This project addresses the overall goal to increase physical fitness and promote sustainable transportation in the City of Jackson.
