The Master Plan for Riverside Park completely redefines the western portion of the park. One of the goals of the project was to design the park such that it works well for both everyday users and the larger weekend and holiday crowds.
The entrance of the park was redesigned to minimize automobile, train and pedestrian conflict points as well as provide a more appropriate entrance to the park and termination of West Brand Boulevard. The road and path system was laid out to maximize views of the Detroit River and provide good police surveillance of the waterfront.
The proposed improvements along the water's edge provide areas for fishing unencumbered railings. In addition, there are periodic lookout points at the ends of the pathways, a pedestrian promenade, and a separate path for bicycles.
